Who we are
The Braamfontein Spruit Ecological Corridor project is a non-profit collaboration between different stakeholders and entities that believe in the power of grassroots-based ecological restoration. Our work takes place along the Braamfontein Spruit (an urban river) in Johannesburg, South Africa. We have been engaged in this specific project since 2024, although a number of partners have been involved in the spruit for many more years.
The project is coordinated by two organisations. The BiodiverCity Collective provides the restoration strategy and is in charge of helping kickstart this project from an ecological and strategic perspective. Jozi Trails is the implementation coordinator, and in charge of bringing together residents, organisations, and other stakeholders along the catchment area and leading the actual implementation efforts around the restoration efforts.
There are a number of other organisations involved in this project. You can see an overview of them on the next page.
